Two industrial fires erupted within hours of each other across the National Capital Region early Friday morning, prompting massive emergency responses but fortunately claiming no lives as firefighters battled blazes at a chemical factory in Noida and a manufacturing unit in Delhi's Bawana area.
The incidents underscore growing concerns about industrial fire safety in the region, coming just days after a deadly blaze in Delhi's Rohini area killed four people earlier this week.
The larger of the two fires broke out around 5:30 AM at Shyam Paints Industries, a chemical manufacturing company located at D-93 in Noida's Sector 212. The blaze rapidly engulfed the facility due to inflammable substances stored inside, triggering multiple explosions that intensified the flames2.
"There were multiple explosions, and the flames had already spread across a wide area," said Pradeep Kumar, Chief Fire Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar, according to The Indian Express2. Initial responders quickly called for reinforcements from neighboring districts including Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, and Meerut2.
More than 25 fire engines were deployed to contain the blaze34. Despite the intensity of the fire, officials confirmed it was successfully restricted to the affected premises without spreading to adjacent industrial units3. No casualties or injuries were reported12.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out around 4:15 AM at a factory located at A-31, Sector-4 in Delhi's Bawana industrial area12. Twenty-two fire tenders were dispatched to control the blaze, according to Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg12.
"Firefighting operation is still underway. No one received any injury so far," Garg said in a statement to PTI1. The cause of the Bawana fire remains under investigation2.
These incidents follow a deadly fire earlier this week in Delhi's Rohini area, where four people died when flames engulfed a four-story building housing multiple manufacturing units on Tuesday evening12. That blaze required nearly 100 firefighters and took approximately 15 hours to control1.
In response to recent fire incidents, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration has formed a high-level committee to inspect factories and enforce fire safety compliance3. The committee has been tasked with identifying safety deficiencies and initiating legal proceedings against violators under various safety acts3.
