Palantir partners with nuclear firm on AI construction system

Palantir Technologies announced Thursday a partnership with The Nuclear Company to develop the first artificial intelligence system designed specifically for nuclear reactor construction, as the United States seeks to accelerate atomic power deployment amid growing competition with China.

The data analytics company will co-develop the Nuclear Operating System, or NOS, with the Kentucky-based nuclear deployment firm in a deal worth approximately $100 million over five years. The AI-driven platform aims to transform nuclear construction into a predictable, data-driven process that could help plants arrive on time and within budget — persistent challenges that have plagued the industry for decades.

Partnership Targets Construction Delays

NOS will provide real-time guidance to construction teams, from material availability to weather conditions, while tracking supply chains and preventing documentation errors1. The system will use sensors across construction sites to feed data into digital twin models, allowing managers to compare actual progress against original plans and identify potential problems before they become costly mistakes1.

National Security Imperative

The announcement follows President Trump's executive orders in May calling for 400 gigawatts of nuclear reactors by 2050 and 10 large-scale reactors under construction by 203012. The orders came as power consumption is expected to reach record highs in 2025 and 2026, driven by energy-hungry data centers supporting AI and cryptocurrency operations23.

The partnership addresses growing concerns about America's nuclear capacity compared to China, which announces 10 gigawatts of new reactors annually while the U.S. has built just 2 gigawatts over the past three decades14.

Warp Speed Integration

NOS represents the latest project in Palantir's Warp Speed initiative, which uses AI to improve manufacturing across defense and energy sectors1.
