Messi's $20.4M salary exceeds 21 MLS team payrolls

Lionel Messi remains Major League Soccer's highest-paid player for the third consecutive year, earning $20.4 million in guaranteed compensation that exceeds the entire payrolls of 21 other teams in the league, according to salary data released Wednesday by the MLS Players Association.

The Argentine superstar's compensation includes a $12 million base salary, with the remainder coming from marketing bonuses and agent fees tied to his contract with Inter Miami, which runs through the 2025 season. The figures reflect only his playing contract and do not include additional revenue streams from his endorsement deal with Adidas or his revenue-sharing agreement with league broadcast partner Apple.
