Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that Brewco Saw Systems will expand its operations in Muhlenberg County with a $1.2 million investment, creating 20 new jobs at the sawmill equipment manufacturer's facility in Central City.
The expansion represents the latest growth for Central City's industrial sector, coming just over a year after another local company, Brewco Marketing Group, announced its own expansion in the same county.
Brewco Saw Systems, founded in 1991, manufactures precision sawmill equipment including thin-kerf resaws, edgers, and trim saws engineered to maximize lumber yield and minimize waste1. The company produces equipment for grade lumber, pallet manufacturing, crosstie production, and specialized wood products from its headquarters on Front Street1.
"Brewco delivers high-performance end-to-end sawmill solutions engineered to maximize yield, minimize waste, and ultimately upgrade finished lumber," according to the company's website1. The manufacturer serves customers across the wood products industry with equipment designed for durability and precision cutting1.
The company acquired Timberland Machinery's Big Jake Scragg assets in 2015, adding scragg systems to its product line for breaking down logs and processing wood2. Since a 2010 ownership change, Brewco Saw Systems has grown from 22 to 47 employees2.
The announcement follows a similar expansion by Brewco Marketing Group, an unrelated company also based in Central City, which invested $1.26 million and created 18 jobs in June 20241. That company, founded in 1997, specializes in mobile marketing vehicles and custom experiences for national brands1.
"Congratulations to Brewco Marketing Group and everyone in Muhlenberg County on the continued growth of this incredible Kentucky-based company," Beshear said during the 2024 announcement1. The marketing company grew from a NASCAR team to become a 100% employee-owned business with 233 employees across multiple states1.
Central City Mayor Tony Armour praised Brewco Marketing Group's 2024 expansion, calling the company "the face of Central City" and noting its role in providing employment opportunities for the city's 6,000 residents1. Muhlenberg County Judge/Executive Mack McGehee recognized the company's commitment to growing within the community1.
Ray Hagerman, executive director of Muhlenberg Economic Growth Alliance, called Brewco Marketing Group "a shining star in its industry" during last year's announcement1.
Both companies manufacture their products in Kentucky, with Brewco Saw Systems describing its equipment as "thoughtfully designed, precision engineered, and built to last right here in Central City, Kentucky, with parts and raw materials sourced in the U.S."2
