iPhone 17 to bring Pro's thin bezels to all models

Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 lineup will extend the thin bezel design currently exclusive to Pro models across the entire range, according to a report today from Digital Chat Station, a Chinese social media account with more than three million followers. The move represents Apple's continued push toward edge-to-edge displays while also introducing a redesigned MagSafe charging system that repositions key elements on the device's back panel.

The changes come as Apple prepares to unveil what industry observers expect to be one of its most design-focused iPhone updates in recent years, with the September launch still two months away.

Bezels Shrink Across All Models

Digital Chat Station reported on Weibo that Apple will bring the ultra-thin bezels from the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max to the standard iPhone 17 and rumored iPhone 17 Air models1. Apple previously described the iPhone 16 Pro bezels as "the thinnest bezels around the screen of any product it has ever released"1.

The leak also suggests all iPhone 17 models will feature a redesigned Dynamic Island interface, though details remain unclear1. Display analyst Ross Young has indicated the changes could allow the base iPhone 17 to grow from 6.1 inches to 6.27 inches while maintaining similar overall device dimensions2.

MagSafe Gets Repositioned

Separate leaks reveal Apple plans to modify the MagSafe charging system's magnetic ring design and relocate the Apple logo lower on the device's back12. According to leaker Majin Bu, the traditional circular magnet array will feature an intentional gap, likely to accommodate the repositioned logo1.

The changes stem from a larger camera housing that spans the full width of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, forcing Apple to move the logo to remain visible when MagSafe cases are attached13. Apple Insider reports that the repositioning involves more than cosmetic changes, requiring internal restructuring of MagSafe components3.

Manufacturing sources told Majin Bu that existing MagSafe accessories will remain compatible with the new design despite the layout changes1.

September Timeline Unchanged

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 series in September, following its traditional second-week unveiling pattern1. The Independent reports Apple typically announces new iPhones on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of that week, with pre-orders beginning the following Friday1.

The design modifications build on Apple's broader strategy to create thinner devices across its product lineup, following the iPad Pro's return to an ultra-slim profile earlier this year2.
